Police in Halifax have arrested a dangerous inmate who was mistakenly released from prison on Friday!

Early Friday Eliahs Knudsen Kent was allowed to mistakenly walk away from the Nova Scotia Correctional Facility. He was scheduled to appear in court next week on a long list of charges. Those charges stemmed from a break-in at a Dartmouth home in September. Police say a homeowner awoke to find two male intruders attempting to steal guns from his cabinet. The home owner tried to stop the two men, but unfortunately failed to apprehend the intruders, and instead was struck in the head numerous times with the bottom end of one of his own rifles. Kent was later charged with attempted murder, home invasion, robbery and using a firearm in the commission of an offense.

Late Saturday at about 2 pm Kent was taken into custody by officers, Halifax police said in a statement released later that day!

According to Sgt. Reid McCoombs, Kent was found at an unknown address in the SpryField area of Halifax. After a short foot chase he was apprehended by police.

Police say they were just doing their routine checks of all their leads, checking a variety of addresses, and this was just another one on the list. Luckily it was the right one, McCoombs told reporters on Saturday!

Now Kent faces an additional charge of escaping lawful custody!

This is not the first mistaken release seen in Novia Scotia. Eight prisoners were accidentally released between 2007 and 2010. There have also been an additional three releases in that same provence.

Prison officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding this latest mistaken release!
